Southeastern Missouri/Southern Illinois (SMSI)

Welcome to the AABE® Southeastern Missouri/Southern Illinois Website

The American Association of Blacks in Energy (AABE®) is a national organization established in 1977 to ensure and enable the input of African Americans and other minorities in energy discussions regarding policies, regulations, technologies, and environmental issues.

The Southeastern Missouri/Southern Illinois (SMSI) Chapter of AABE® is headquartered in Decatur, IL.  Our member companies include Ameren, GSM Development, and David Mason & Associates.  Minorities and professionals in all sectors of the energy industry (gas, coal, nuclear, electric, energy services, water, and renewables…) are encouraged to join our organization to assist in representing and educating our communities on energy issues.

The SMSI Chapter of AABE® is committed to developing and engaging our members, educating students on career opportunities, providing scholarships, and informing our communities of current energy issues.  We are excited about our new leadership team and have streamlined our focus to 3 distinct areas; Member Engagement, Student Engagement, and Community Partnerships.

As you navigate through our website you will be able to find much information about our chapter and we hope you become an active participant.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at smsi@aabe.org.

Sincerely,

Hassan Helm, President

AABE® SMSI Chapter
